Leningrad Cafe`s Birthday Party: The Public and the Staff on the Big Stage

During the first year of existence Old Riga's Leningrad cafe has made friends with many innovative and well-known Latvian and foreign musicians. Both the cafe's public and staff will be represented in Leningrad's 1st anniversary concert at Latvian Railway Museum on March 21.

In March 2008, Leningrad cafe (in Old Riga, 54 Kaleju Str.), whose interior is decorated like a Soviet-style flat, opened its door for the first party in which everybody could feel like a part of social life what it looked like several decades ago.

Now the time has come to celebrate the cafe's first anniversary. And, since the number of people that have appreciated the cafe's cosiness is obiously far too big to find room for everyone in the cafe, a bigger venue-Latvian Railway Museum (2/4 Uzvaras Blvd. Riga) - is chosen for the birthday party.

The celebration will begin on Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock and will continue all night on two stages with more than 10 bands&solo artists, music ranging from hardcore&ska to powerpop and even electronics. The bill is set to include Latvian rock dinosaurs Linga, punk prodigies Tumors, heavy postrock specialists Tesa, ska veterans Voiceks Voiska, as well as Finnish guests: melodic rockers Foto and eccentric synth&bass&drums trio Folke Westside.

On the smaller stage, there will be accoustic performances by internationally active singer& songwriter Goran Gora and other Leningrad's friends, as well as poetry readings by Andris Zeibots, the father of Latvian Absurdist Drama, and other participants of cafe's regular poets' gathering Dzejas zveja (Poetry Fishing).
